Hattie Quinn · Multipotentialite HQ

I have devoured information on writing, filmmaking, podcasting, and more for years. I thought I would strengthen my writing skills and tap into the modern channels people use to receive information and that creators use to express themselves.

It has been a distraction. In some cases, I know enough to teach classes on the very subjects I continue to study, yet I have failed to finalize a script or finish writing a novel. Though I have at least three first draft scripts and numerous outlines for novels, they flow slowly. I published several short stories, but they are few and far between.

This is my problem. I have too many passionate interests, and they cannot all be integrated. Cooking and knitting go well together, but they are only peripheral to my writing, and I do neither for a living. My writing runs the gambit of genres: fiction, nonfiction, prose, poetry, screenplays, and rants. My interests range from politics to lazy hydroponic gardening to multipotentialites throughout history to comic book movies to ancient civilizations and the history of revolutions. Whatever strikes my master chord next.

I have a thought map full of projects containing a measure of my passions, the primest of my pursuits, and the only real connection is me standing in the center, trying to find the gold among the dross, the will among the shinies.

I imagine she’d (I’d) manifest all of the best ideas, one by one, but that seems a daunting and nigh-unending plan. It is a bit boring, too, as my undiagnosed attention issues, combined with my apparent executive dysfunction, can cause me to roam a bit as a new muse catches my eye. My heart invariably follows, leaving a small piece behind to return to later when that muse snares my heart. And thus the cycle continues.

That which completes me and only that. That is a pat answer. Dig deeper.

What completes me? Easier asked than answered, easier answered than accomplished, but I have known what it was since I was thirteen years old. When I had yet to be treated harshly by my fellow humans, my youthful enthusiasm diminished over time. I didn’t know how it would manifest, and I lost its thread for a while in my self-destructive zeal. Still, I made my way back to LOVE. Love—first for myself and then for others—brought the rest roaring back into my deepest recesses. All I have ever wanted to do summed up in a perfect little mantra that has become indelibly woven upon my soul:

READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE-READ-WRITE-TRAVEL-TEACH-LOVE…repeat a hundred more times, and again…

And so, I will do all these things, sharing them in one or another of my publications, spinning threads and tales as suits my current calling, ever weaving my warp into the weft of the world. But perhaps that is not quite me.

I may instead weave my words upon my web for the world to experience or ignore, as they are called.

This Substack shall be my proto web, where I first test the strength of my silk, then map out the frame, spinning radial threads—compiling a few publications where I can focus on specific parts of my multipotentialite manifestation in Malkuth.

Speaking of Malkuth…

Going forward, I will cycle through all my anchor points to stabilize this endeavor, spinning the spiral that makes my web. Each will get a brief mention here at Multipotentialite HQ, with a link to the other publication (or website or channel, if I am being ambitious).

I tend to undermine myself when making promises, so I’ll spare us both. Still, I hope to be consistent with my endeavors, even if it means posting my word count to the inevitable writing-related publication and how my writing sprints went, or sharing what I am cooking today, or a recipe I shared years ago on my cooking blog (an amusement I had while I was holding a sleeping baby). I can say that I have been pleased with this interface so far, and it bodes well for this new adventure.

I've scheduled an event for next week. If nothing has been posted by then, it will nudge me.
