But in fashion, the debate has recently focused on two key front-runners: butter and lemon. And for Hailey Bieber, there’s no question as to which hue should come out on top.

It’s been a year since the Rhode founder declared that the soft butter-yellow shade was “played out,” championing its brighter cousin—and she’s stayed true to her word ever since.

For a night out at Los Angeles hotspot Sushi Park, she embraced the bold citrus color, wearing a vintage Dolce & Gabbana cami that would pair perfectly with a lemony cocktail. The piece was designed back in 2002, with little spaghetti straps, white lace detailing, and a silky body that brought out its zesty highlighter shade.

Bieber paired the top with flare-leg trousers in navy blue, as well as little open-toe heels. For accessories, she went full Y2K with her favorite zig-zag headband, little black sunglasses, and wired headphones.

In July 2025, the beauty mogul was busy promoting her popular Peptide Lip Tint’s latest shade, Lemontini, when she had to take a break to address some confusion from her customers. Apparently, a handful of people were up in arms about the packaging, believing it should have matched the buttery pastel that was taking over Instagram feeds and city streets alike. “Stop asking me why it’s not butter yellow,” Bieber wrote. “It’s not butter yellow because it’s LEMON. And butter yellow is played out... respectfully.”
