Skiing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up sliding down the mountains of Colorado, Idaho, and California, feeling that unmistakable sense of freedom only the mountains can offer. Backcountry skiing and uphilling became a part of my life in 2017, and I fell head over heels for these different ways of moving through snow and terrain. Uphilling quickly became my go-to workout, and I would do it every day if the seasons allowed. While I miss living in the mountains full time, I’m happily exploring European resorts and backcountry areas whenever I can, soaking in every powder-filled moment and crisp mountain air.
Over the years, I’ve realized that thoughtful packing is just as important as technique or stamina. With the right gear, snacks, and little self-care rituals, your ski vacation becomes not just an adventure but a joyful, effortless experience. Here’s a peek into what I pack for every trip.
Layering is everything. Weather changes quickly in the mountains, so I always plan for warmth, movement, and style.
Bibs & Jacket: Fusalp – technical, flattering, and durable outerwear.
Base Layers: Half Days – light, soft, breathable layers that move with you.
Ski Socks: FALKE – moisture-wicking warmth from morning lift to après.
Gloves: Hestra mittens for unbeatable warmth and dexterity.
Helmet & Goggles: POC keeps me safe and stylish.
In my ski jacket, I always carry a few small essentials that make a long day on the slopes feel effortless: tissues, a water bottle, sunglasses, a baseball hat, and a swipe of lipstick. These small comforts go a long way.
Winter sun at high altitudes is deceptively strong, and nothing kills a trip faster than dry, chapped skin. Hydration and SPF are non-negotiable.
Face: U Beauty Super Hydrator + Supergoop! Glow SPF
Lips: Summer Fridays Clear Lip Butter
Mountain Must-Haves: Hydrating face masks, eye masks, and Eminence face oil for post-ski recovery
Even a short day on the mountain deserves intentional skincare. Protect, hydrate, repeat.
Skiing is demanding, and fueling yourself consistently keeps energy high and spirits joyful.
Electrolytes for quick hydration (I use Ultima)
Raw almonds for portable protein/fat
My most indulgent travel ritual: my own matcha kit. Yes, it’s a little extra, but sipping matcha mid-mountain is pure bliss
These small touches keep me grounded, nourished, and fully present while exploring.
Backcountry skiing requires extra attention to layering and preparation. Start cold—your body will warm quickly on the climb.
Outerwear: Patagonia, Mammut, The North Face
Touring Pack: Black Diamond – carries helmet, extra layers, electrolytes, snacks, hat, goggles, and skins
Preparation: I always check my gear and have my skis and bindings inspected at the local ski shop before leaving
Good preparation ensures safety and a stress-free day, letting the joy of the mountains take center stage.
