Loved ones had always told wrestler Rebecca Quin, known in the ring as Becky Lynch, that when you’re with the right person, ‘You just know’.

But it wasn’t until she became a couple with close friend and now husband, Colby, aka fellow WWE superstar Seth Rollins, that she understood what this meant.

“It just all felt so obvious…” she tells a giddy Gi in this week’s Happy Mum! “We were boyfriend and girlfriend in February… he started shopping for a ring, I believe, in March… and he asked me to marry him in August.

“Of course in there you have your hiccups… but, you know, it’s just… This is my person.”

From the absolute certainty of their relationship to the unknowns around planning a family - the next part of Becky and Colby’s path together began with a very, very faint line - and some unexpected wobbles over revealing the news!

Perhaps the biggest build-up to her pregnancy reveal in Becky’s mind was to her WWE boss, Vince McMahon. But his supportive, excited response was a happy surprise - alongside a new contentment with her changing body.

“I had eating disorders, and you’re in a wrestling industry where… it is a physical industry, and it’s appearance-focused. But I was like, ‘Oh… no, it’s good’. It gave me so much more acceptance.”

Just months after Colby and Becky’s daughter was born during the pandemic, Becky’s Father passed away, and she faced heartbreaking months of grief with a newborn in isolation.

And when she stopped breastfeeding after two years, she was hit by postpartum depression.

“I remember describing it as like I couldn’t see colours. Everything just felt grey and dull, and I had no hope,” she tells Gi. “I didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning. I didn’t want to exist. I was just so low… Anything that went wrong, went super wrong… I didn’t feel worthy of my husband…”

The unforeseen timing of this depression brought shock and confusion, but thankfully was demystified by somebody she knew, who had also experienced the same after breastfeeding. After six months of some familiar, comforting acupuncture therapy, Becky began to recover.

She continues to navigate her grief today, while finding constant joy in the creativity of being an icon at the peak of her career - and solace in the peaceful family bubble she comes home to as Mummy to her daughter.

“The sad part, of course, is that my dad never got to meet her,” she says. “And oh, my God, would he love her. She’s such a character, and he would’ve just thought she was the best… I know he would have been so proud.”
