scans of a little concertina book i made the other day out of cue cards and a 1976 national geographic feature on whales that i tore out for my son but kept for myself. i like making dinky little books like these when i’m stuck on something, or don’t have time to work on anything else. satisfies the need for busy hands (eternal) and a sense of completion (rare). keep meaning to teach myself actual book-binding but can never really go past the concertina/accordion/leporello form, just too fun. so many möbius books.1

also it’s cool/gross/funny how fancy it sounds to invoke the triple threat formal terms ‘concertina/accordion/leporello’ but it’s basically just gluing two folded bits of paper end to end, endlessly. the way i do it, anyway. i’m sure there’s a better way but i’m at peace. also i generally suck at and am embarrassed by collage but it’s a good exercise in sequencing + decision-making and therefore in commitment and acclimatising to the persistent, looming terror of determinism. what i’m trying to say is: it’s fun for the whole family.

borrowed this term from the title of catherine lacey’s new book, which i have not read. intend to, just stalling on buying the US edition because the local version (aus/UK) is so fugly. why is this always the case
