If only you'd come, if only you'd stayed And talked with me while the jazz music played At this quiet cafe in the long afternoon My hope like the flames in a hot air balloon I watched streams of couples come and go Laughing and looking and taking love slow And friends met for coffee and catching up Leaving their lipstick on every white cup I sighed as the sun dipped into the trees It's fading light brought a faint evening breeze The busboy began to wipe tables and chairs He smiled at me; at least somebody cares About a lonely young woman in a quiet cafe Maybe next time you'll come and you'll stay
