Goosby can handle it. The 6-7, 335 pound sensation is the best of an excellent class of offensive tackles for the 2027 draft. This week’s early ratings by NFL Draft Scout show five OTs rated as first round prospects in a top-heavy showing with nine among our first 100.
Goosby already overcame a life-or-death challenge far more dangerous than any edge rusher. At 16, Goosby underwent open-heart surgery to repair an atrial septal defect and wondered whether he would play football again. Four years later, the blind-side protector ranks sixth overall on NFL Draft Scout’s early 2027 board.
We will get to his phenomenal physical traits. But, like Goosby himself, let’s keep everything in a real life perspective.
Goosby wore an “Every 15 Minutes” pin at SEC Media Days to call attention to congenital heart defects and recently hosted a youth camp benefiting the Children’s Heart Foundation and pledged to match donations up to $20,000.
On the flight to Tampa for media days last month, he and Texas coach Steve Sarkisian—who underwent open-heart surgery in 2020—compared compared scars, recoveries and the indispensable pillow each received after surgery.
Sarkisian underwent a successful heart procedure on July 2, 2020, while he was Alabama’s offensive coordinator. Alabama said doctors found a congenital cardiovascular anomaly during his annual physical and corrected it before it became a problem.
Since that childhood sugery, Goosby developed consistently, first as a four-star, 280-pound recruit going into his senior season at Melissa High (Texas). By the time he arrived at Texas he was 311 pounds.
His physical tests at that weight qualify as freakish. For one thing he could do a 360-degree dunk. With a basketball, of course. He also was timed in 1.44 seconds at ten yards and one repot clocked him running at 21.2 miles per hour. There are running backs who wish they could do that, especially if Goosby is chasing them.
It all transferred to remarkable play on the field. Goosby started all 13 games at left tackle in 2025, earned first-team All-SEC from the coaches and enters 2026 with 30 games played and 15 career starts. Before taking over full time, he replaced injured first-round pick Kelvin Banks Jr. late in 2024, started the SEC Championship at left tackle, then started the CFP quarterfinal at right tackle.
Against Texas A&M, Goosby drew Cashius Howell, then the SEC sack leader and No. 2 nationally. Goosby allowed Howell no sacks and no pressures. Texas rushed for 218 yards, 100 above the average allowed by A&M entering the game, and Goosby earned SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Just behind Goosby on our list is LSU offensive tackle Jordan Seaton at 6-5, 307. He was a five-star recruit, became a Freshman All-American at Colorado and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2025.
When he transferred to LSU he was the portal’s No. 1 offensive tackle. He brings 22 career starts and 1,421 offensive snaps—all at left tackle. LSU says he allowed only one sack in 561 snaps during his injury-shortened 2025 season.

Financial Downside for Elite Tackles: Top-tier offensive tackles routinely command higher average annual salaries (often pushing past $25–$28 million) compared to interior linemen. Being grouped into a generic “OL” tag mathematically pulls down the tag value, as it factors in lower guard and center salaries. This means tagging an elite tackle is usually a significant financial discount for an NFL franchise.
While the main list does not have a separate “Tackle” category, Spotrac’s transactional articles and individual player profiles track when specific offensive tackles are hit with the generic OL tag. They track how those tags lead to massive multi-year extensions—such as the historic deals previously signed by elite blindside protectors like Andrew Thomas.
