Half Court Hoops · Half Court Hoops - Coach's Cut

During this offseason, one of our priorities was to develop more reps and IQ for some of our young guards (2029 Christian Hargett & 2029 Cam McDonald) in anticipation of using more ballscreens next season. This is the first day of skill reads and teaching, with film examples of what we were working on throughout the video.

The next few breakdowns will be on the Knicks Championship defense, Dusty May’s 5-Out Conceptual offense, and deep dive film studies on 5-Out conceptual offense - if you want to support my work or access any previous breakdowns, consider becoming a paid supporter.

Jon Scheyer at Duke has been one of my favorite college coaches to study, blending modern 5-Out offense with great sets and a playbook designed around post-ups for Boozer and flowing into 5-Out actions. I love how he has kept Duke’s tradition of motion offense and used it for what modern basketball is and helps prepare his players for the next level at the same time.

The Knicks’ offense was simple in the playoffs, evolving from KAT at the elbows with actions off him, morphing into Brunson-centric as the NBA Finals became more and more complex. My favorite play from them was attacking switches out of the elbow:
