A daze, after pushing a life into being. Then sleep, deep and soft and wholly lost to time. When I awoke, I’d forgotten you’d arrived. Dawning realization bright and warm as the sunrise, butterflies in my newly empty tummy, I turned on my side and sighed peace and joy and disbelief at how perfect you were, snoozing in a little bucket next to me. I scooped you up, my Lewis, and I gave you kisses. Your tiny nose was shaped just like mine. My heart was filled to the brim.
