I know it’s sort of silly, as an influencer, to say that there was once a point in time where I thought influencing was silly, but then I just started learning more about social media, technology, and more importantly, history I think.

I’ve committed from now on, to trying to post once a week on my personal Youtube as a way of sharing more bits of my life. And I guess learning about the ways in which Youtube was radical and new has been mind shattering. I used to watch Youtube videos by Bethany Mota, and Shannon Barker. They exposed me to new worlds, coastal worlds, and “health and wellness,” and helped me romanticize my life as a teenage girl.

I also had this fascination with the Victoria’s Secret Models. I wanted to know what the angels were doing and how to become one. One summer I did their workouts obsessively.

Now, I sort of look back at that point in my life with the curious question of what we do for entertainment and who we look up to. And it’s all sort of world building, you know?

But I do feel the need to pass the torch back and be a role model for younger girls, whether they found me through Kansas, or the pageant world, or through Hot Literati.

Last summer, I remember inviting a friend to join me on something during the weekend, and they said “of course I want to join the hailo universe.” Thus, it was born. My own sort of world building where I share bits and pieces of my life, and everyone who watches is one of my angels.

I’ve committed to posting once a week on Youtube (fridays!) as well as smaller, daily reels showing what I’m eating, watching, reading, etc etc.

Everything is something to do.

In the future, I’d love to partner with brands pursuing sustainable fashion, health and wellness, travel, and more. I’d also like to start doing more paid collaborations with brands I really love and use. And a big mental shift here is that creating content is a sort of contemporary labor, and the same way celebrity endorsements used to function is how influencers navigate this landscape.

As far as what makes my perspective unique, I’m not really sure. I’m the only person in my own brain and I like it here most of the time. I love karaoke and reading and eating vegetables. I want a dog. I like New York and I love France.

It’s a good thing to share your perspective and it’s even better to have a strategy around it.
