Cambodia I: Capital to Coast
The first half of the account of my time in Cambodia! Our first stop was the capital city, Phnom Penh, where we visited the royal palace and the Cheung Ek memorial site before heading to the coast and visiting the island Koh Rong.

Ho Chi Minh City
Kaila and I fly to Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in the southern half of Vietnam. More good food, some museums, and lots of walking! This is our last stop in Vietnam, so it's a bit of a bittersweet time as we try to enjoy our last few days in this lovely country while also looking forward to what's ahead.
Hoi An and Da Nang
Two more cities in Vietnam: Hoi An and Da Nang. We check out the historic old town with all the pretty buildings and paper lanterns in Hoi An, and also spend some time on the beach there and in Da Nang. Some more good food too!
Things Left to Time in Hue
We move farther south in Vietnam and come to the biggest city we've been in since Hanoi. We eat some good food and see some different kinds of relics to time.
Swimming Underground in Phong Nha
We leave the coast and head a bit south to a region sometimes described as "the Ha Long Bay of the Land" that features similar geology that isn't flooded. We get to see some more caves, and these are way more extensive then what we floated through in the bays.

After spending a chilly few days in the northern Vietnam mountains, we head to some islands off the coast. This leg of the trip has everything: Geology! Boats! Smaller boats! Caves! Monkeys (actually primates)! Bikes (motored and motorless)! A puppy! A lap cat! Even fish between toes!
Happy Water in Sapa
The next leg of our journey involves catching a bus leaving Hanoi, and traveling to Sapa, a town in the northern mountains of Vietnam surrounded by smaller villages and rice terraces. We bought tickets for the bus from our hostel in Hanoi, and they said we would be picked up just out front. This ended up being half true... I also introduce Cables of the Day in this post!
