My littles’s camera stopped working, so we got a family one — the Camp Snap in red, because red is her color and that was never up for debate.
It’s screen-free, one button. You point, you shoot, you find out later what you got. She loves it. I don’t have to worry about it. Everyone wins.
What I didn’t expect was how much I’d love seeing what she decided to photograph. The cat, her book, me in many unflattering poses, her face, flash, no flash; you name it. She just walks around pointing at whatever is right in front of her and that’s the whole decision.
I’ve been pretty deep in my head lately. The things that feel enormous late at night, the running list, the low-grade background hum of it all. And then I look at her photos and she’s just... here. Whatever is in front of her is the whole thing. What she wants to do right now is the most pressing thing there is.
I’m working on borrowing some of that. Still a work in progress.
