1 Lara Trump, “I Won’t Back Down” (First Class). In his Substack newsletter A Legend in His Own Minefield, John Mendelssohn suggests that with the implosion of the Freedom 250 shows the White House could simply bring in—or, you could presume, transfer the funds to—Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump. Tom Petty really did hang himself with his own rope: he wrote the ultimate protest song, a protest song without a cause or an enemy, a great song that absolutely anyone can sing for any purpose—and everybody has. This isn’t quite up to David Duke’s use of the number as a sign-off—Lara Trump has a paint-thinner voice, his was as full as his hair—but you can be sure she means every word of it. She could be right there in the National Mall and they’d have it rigged up so that the government workers drafted for the event to sing along would sound like the whole country.
