Isn’t social media weird? One day we’re all over here. Then everyone is flocking over there. And, now, here we are on Substack. Will we stay here? It seems unlikely, as striving for the next best thing is the only thing these moves have in common. We are always looking for the place we fit, our village, our digital neighborhood. So what’s a mom to do?

It feels like the rise of this platform is in direct response to the noise of social media. The Instagrams and Facebooks are just too saturated. They are demanding our attention, but it’s rarely what we want to see or where we want to spend our precious time.

Where are the pictures of my neighbor’s lunch?

No one has checked-in anywhere.

We want to connect on a more personal level but these platforms have made us a commodity.

We always refer to our community as a neighborhood because there is something familiar yet flexible there. We understand what it means to be a part of one, but also know how to change or move to a different area as our families grow. That is why we do maintain a presence on most socials because what fits today might not fit tomorrow. And the community you seek is probably already waiting for you.

What we don’t know is where the tide will take us. The only thing constant is inconstancy. So, we are here now and this feels like coming home a bit. It has the vibe of old school RSS feeds and blogging. It still has that new tech shine. But, where our foundation is set, gardens planted, and the kids are running free will always be our website: GreaterHoustonMoms.com and our direct email list. As socials rise and fall this is our home and we hope to see you there.

But, no one stays home - we happily head out to meet the neighbors. So, we are here on Substack to meet you (and all the other socials) where you are. Because, the gathering place may change, but the community stays the same. Thanks for finding us!
