July’s meeting has been cancelled and rescheduled for August 12th from 6:30-7:30PM. Room opens at 6:00PM for chatting. The normal August 25th meeting will follow. These two meetings will focus on ICT Bee Fest prep (Sept 5th!) and upcoming Fall restoration projects such as invasive plant removal at Pawnee Prairie Park.
Free and open to the public, the Bee City Wichita Committee meetings are a great way to learn more about the initiative, get updates on gardens around town, and find like-minded people.

We will be heading out to collect seeds at two different sites this Fall and would love help! Learn more about seed collection and storage while helping us gather seeds for giveaways and supporting the Bee City Wichita mission. Supplies provided.
Participants are welcome to take some seeds home as well! Just remember to harvest responsibly.

Ethical Seed Harvesting:
Take only what you will use
Never take from the first plant you see of a species (look for abundance)
Never take more than half of one plant’s seeds
Only harvest from plants you know to avoid harming rare species
WSU’s Ninnescah Biological Reserve

This site is not normally open to the public and is where Wichita State University students often do field research and experiments. Expect rough terrain and hiking through tall grass with limited access to mowed trails. A huge thank you to WSU for allowing us access!
Pawnee Prairie Park

Meet in parking lot at Plum Lee Trail
One of Wichita’s largest prairie restorations, Pawnee Prairie Park is a great site to wander. While there are paved trails, we will focus on open areas so expect hiking through tall grass with access to mowed trails.
We need monarchs for tagging and an assortment of other species to fill our pop-up butterfly tent for Bee Fest! We’ll visit two sites and you’re welcome to join at either one or both. Check out WSU’s website to find visitor parking. Supplies provided.
