I really hate corporate April Fool's but Duolingo kind of killed it. Too bad they could've been using that money to make their product better but they made the memes real so I guess that's fine too... 🙃 https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=lEFRl6Lej_0
Does Google AI search know it's April 1st or is this just a par for the course AI hallucination? I'll take my $30k prize money but skip the World Athletics Championships, thanks.
I *barely* made it after all that. Duolingo people are crazy.
100 days of learning Japanese on Duolingo and I have some opinions. I'm looking at other resources because Duolingo falls a bit short. # languagelearning # japanese # duolingo https:// mary.codes/blog/life/100-days- of-japanese-duolingo/
Wrote a bit today about how I (attempt to) keep myself organized. https:// mary.codes/blog/programming/ho w_im_organizing_my_work_in_2024/
Almost didn't post yesterday, but I couldn't stop thinking about this documentary I watched on Sunday night. https:// mary.codes/blog/life/good_nigh t_oppy/

I saw Cady Heron had her current Git branch in her terminal prompt, so I put my current Git branch in my terminal prompt. https:// mary.codes/blog/programming/di splaying-git-branch-in-linux-terminal/
I've taken my code from my original OpenStreetMaps post and added # AFrame to begin turning it into a # WebXR , interactive experience. Still a work in progress, but the progress is happening, slowly but surely. # webdev https:// mary.codes/blog/programming/ge nerating_a_vr_map_with_osm_and_aframe/
Going back and forth between coding and blogging and I'm ending all of my sentences with semicolons help;
Iris Apfel has been an inspiration of mine for years. She was passionate about her work and found fun in everything she did. https:// people.com/iris-apfel-dead-at- 102-7502469
Brought Friday Faves back this week after needing a break last week. My attempt at curating cool things I find on the internet. https:// mary.codes/blog/friday_faves/b aby_elephants_world_radio_abandoned_projects/
I like to use animated GIFs in my blog posts, but I never really thought about how they hurt accessibility until a GIF really started annoying me the other day. Thinking about some ways to make GIFs more accessible. # WebDev # accessibility https:// mary.codes/blog/web_accessibil ity/are_animated_gifs_accessible/
Posts like this one give me so much stress when I launch hobby sites. Too many horror stories about small sites being charged insane amounts due to no fault of their own. I used to use Netlify, glad I left a while ago. https://www. reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1 b14bty/netlify_just_sent_me_a_104k_bill_for_a_simple/ https:// news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3 9520776
I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who checked out my blog in the past couple of days and made positive comments. Today I wrote about how insane it is to go from 30 page views a day to 20k overnight. (Maybe I should stop looking at stats... 👀) https:// mary.codes/blog/life/top_of_ha cker_news/
Uhhh... someone posted my blog post to Hacker News and now I'm at the top of the page? I can tell you I was NOT prepared for that today. The stats, they're totally blown up now. (I appreciate it ❤️)
Sometimes you have a dumb project that you just can't quit. This is mine. Part 1 of my project is to explore using OpenStreetMap data to make custom maps. Parsing the map data is done with # Rust and # WebAssembly . # WebDev https:// mary.codes/blog/programming/tr anslating_openstreetmaps_to_HTML5_canvas_rust_wasm/
I am still horribly full of impostor syndrome despite crawling up on a decade of webdev experience, but as scary as it is to be getting my thoughts out there it's also quite exciting.
