When I was a child
I dreamed of childish things
web slingers
baseball pitchers
puck sliders on ice
every dream enthralled me
I knew I could be each if only I tried and believed

But as I became a man and saw these dreams become a shadow of what could have been
I gave up the reasoning of a child and traded it for a man’s

Dreams coalesced into circumstances
blessings
skills
gifts
and what others could pour into me

The vision of a being a leader of sport
a hero for all
while it didn’t bear itself out through the lens of a little boy
not getting to be atop any one game
I experienced mere sanctification
the God-given privilege to be master of my myself and my own domain

Putting my strengths and dexterity to use
I dreamed for my children
and became their leader for a time
