Thank you ever so much for the warm welcome back to my previous email(s). Again, sorry for the wrong link to that ridiculously funny YouTube short about the time Kenny the cat decided to domestic himself. If you missed my correction email, click here to see the video on YouTube.
I’ve decided to lean into my love of Tuesdays by publishing this newsletter on Tuesdays. Now, I’m not promising I can do this every.single.Tuesday. I mean, I am still living in this body beset with me/cfs, POTS, and other things which have yet to be fully named.
But I am saying you can expect to hear from me on the Tuesdays I have energy to share, and I’m hoping that’s quite regularly because that last newsletter I sent you on Saturday was such fun to compile for you 🥰
I’m stoked I’ve given myself support for this too now - I’ve got a template of sorts figured out for the format. This is going to help me share with you items as I come across them each week, because I can just hop into each week’s draft outline and share as energy allows. This will, hopefully, create more ease and sustainability for us connecting here.
✍🏻 thing(s) I wrote this week that I want to share with you
l wrote a post about the need for surgeons to give accurate AND full information to people with fibroids BEFORE any surgical interventions. I was prompted to write this post after seeing yet again person join a support group I’m in sharing her story of how she was told the risk her fibroid was cancer was so rare it wasn’t really even possible BUT it turned out to be cancer and because of her surgeon’s choice during her hysterectomy she was now stage 4 and riddled with tumors throughout her abdomen!!!
I really want to share this risk in as many ways as I can because these situations are literally being caused by surgeon arrogance coupled with lack of full context given to patients that feel they can trust their surgeons.
If you’ve got a uterus, or know & love people with who have uterus’s, please consider sharing this post to help raise awareness of these risks. Here’s the post link: People with Uterus’ Cannot Give True Informed Consent When They Aren’t Given Full and Accurate Information
📺 things I watched this week I wanna share with you
My partner and I watched SCORE: A FILM MUSIC DOCUMENTARY the other night. It took us about 3 hours to get through 93 minutes of film because we kept pausing it to have side-quest conversations.
I was really struck by hearing HANS-FREAKIN’-ZIMMER say he still feels like he’s going to fail. A great reminder that fear of failure can stop me in my tracks OR I can let it fuel my desire to keep trying.
If you’re into movies, music, psychology, or the creative process as a concept, this movie has so much to offer you.
Alyssa Grenfell posted a video detailing her experience as an ex-mormon visiting a psychic and also a Reiki practitioner. She drew some interesting paraleels between the difference to perceived authority and suspension of disbelief asked of participants by the psychic and Reiki person and the Mormon church. As an ex-mormon, it all clicked for me too. You can check out her video New Age Spiritually SHOCKED ME here.
💬 a quote I’ve been carrying around
“I thought I was low maintenance. I was highly adaptive.” from Karissa | No More Bullsh*t
The quote is pulled from her piece The Moment I Realized I Had Been Living on the Edges of My Own Life and, honestly, the whole thing was such a good read.
But that part right there?
That part is where you stop, you ask yourself “where am I still being adaptive instead of wholly accommodating my wholedamnself?”
📖 what i’ve been reading
My Favorite Jo posted the following:
“Let’s think about ADHD traits and how they may be useful to humanity as a whole:
Highly distractable - distractable, or did I just notice that tiny rustle in the grass and see we were being stalked by a lioness before everyone was wiped out?
Obsesses for days on end about something without even stopping to eat - is this bad, or did I just go on a great hunt and bring the tribe back some food?
Leaves lots of things half done and moves onto the next thing - so what I’m hearing is i left a few berries on the tree so it can continue to flourish and moved onto the next tree (we’ve actually done studies on this and ADHDers did exactly this AND consistently came back with significantly more berries cause we jumped from one to the next without wasting time stripping every single one)
Has trouble sleeping - guards tribe at night while they sleep, staying alert long into the night keeping them safe
Strange affinity for animals - we domesticated the wolves, you’re welcome!
Some of us are sensory avoidant - we worked out which foods were safe and stuck with them
Some of us are sensory seeking - a bunch of us died putting everything in our mouths so we could eventually discover pizza
Constant fidgeting and moving - hello basket weaving, paper making, creating the wheel etc
The list goes on! Now these same traits are demonised in modern society. We used to be the leaders and warriors back in caveman times. Later we were the seers, the healers, the wise ones. Later again we were the renaissance man - the creatives, the polymaths, the philosophers. And later still we are now considered failures, disabled, a bane on society. We are still all those amazing things - the deep thinkers, the creatives, the protectors; only now Crapitalism has been so normalised that society that once looked to us, has now turned on us. It’s exhausting knowing there is this greatness in us that the world refuses to see or acknowledge “
…Reminded me of when I first read about Thom Hartmann’s theory that ADHD is an evolutionary trait that drove exploration and inovation a couple of decades ago in his book Attention Deficit Disorder: A Different Perception. Seeing that his work has been updated into a 2019 edition is pretty rad to me—-ADHD: A Hunter in a Farmer’s World (affiliate link).
I’m gonna check it out. If you’ve read it, please let me know your thoughts? Would you recommend it? Did you think he was completely off his rocker? I’m so interested in this topic.
🎼 what i’ve been listening to:
