Gorman Bechard · Gorman Bechard

You’ve probably heard a song written by the Duct Tape Messiah, aka Blaze Foley, even if you didn’t realize it. Or you know Lucinda Williams’ haunting “Drunken Angel,” written as a tribute to Foley. Townes Van Zandt wrote the song "Blaze's Blues" as a tribute to his friend. The list of people who admired and shared or did tributes to his songwriting skills is pretty long and admirable.

There’s a new record out, another tribute to his genius. This is one of the best tracks, and you might even know it from John Prine’s cover. Though I like this version more.

Here is “Clay Pigeons” from the album Sitting with Blaze, a Tribute to Blaze Foley by Lucy Dacus

And just so you can make up your own mind, here is the John Prine version.

And here is the original…

The Spotify playlist containing all of the Songs of the Week in order (with the exception of the couple that are not on Spotify) Enjoy! Share! Play it loud!
