In that time, our small, independent crew of authors, editors, illustrators, and podcasters at Damn Interesting published 797,626 words (798,231 if you count this post), released 410 podcast episodes, curated over 45,000 interesting links, made a few games, won a few awards, published one paper book, served up zero ads, and gained twenty years of, let’s say, experience.

all of the advancement in graphics hardware since this point in the past should have been real time 3d models to produce the most authentic rendering of these buttons in today's high resolution displays or with the color reflections cast by other windows etc

10,000% Sadly, you can see a lot of the UI design on the web getting oversized and rounded off and flattened — presumably to cater more and more to mobile device users but the fact that it's bleeding so deeply into the design of windowed operating systems is an absolute travesty.
