While GLP1s are getting easier and easier to take with oral options having launched this year, one incredibly promising branch of GLP1 research is genetic therapies to boost GLP1 production.
As most know at this point, GLP1 and it’s receptor agonists are a naturally occurring phenomenon in the body — many areas of the body have GLP1 receptors (including importantly the brain). Being able to increase the body’s natural production of GLP1s (even temporarily) would mean a much longer lasting GLP1 effect, without repeatedly taking a pill or shot.

Fractyl Health’s Rejuva platform aims to perform locally administered gene therapy to increase hormonal responses (i.e. GLP1 agonist production) that the body produces naturally. Fractyl Health touts the possibility of obesity “remission”.
