Sometimes you think you want calm, but what your mind is really asking for is certainty.

You want to know how things will turn out.

You want to know what someone meant.

You want to know if you made the right decision.

You want to know if the future will be okay.

You want to know if the feeling in your chest means something is wrong, or if it is just your body reacting to a long day.

And because you do not know, your mind keeps searching.

It replays.

It checks.

It predicts.

It builds possible futures.

It goes back to the same thought again and again, not because the thought is useful every time, but because some part of you believes that if you can finally understand everything clearly enough, your body will relax.

This is why overthinking can feel so convincing.

It tells you it is helping.

It tells you one more thought might solve the feeling.

It tells you that peace is waiting on the other side of the perfect answer.

But many times, your mind is not actually looking for calm.

It is looking for certainty.
