Beat 344 of my DrumBeatProject 5.31.26. This is a sibling beat with Beat #335 written (improvised) minutes after that one and notated later. This one forgoes the tongue drum of #335 for four Aluphone bells, but I’m still keeping time with the dried wisteria branch as a rattle/brush/mallet (I noticed it’s sound while cleaning up the yard and had to try it out). The left foot is playing Upcycled Percussion key chimes via Dixon Drums cable foot pedal. The bass drum part (played on the cocktail style floor tom/bass drum underneath that tone drum) is a steady answer to the Aluphone melody. In the first video I’m playing the branch with the right hand on the ride and in the second with the left hand on the rack tom. It’s a simple enough melody to execute with either hand depending on what instrument/surface you want to play the branch (brush, broom) part with, so play around and have fun customizing it.

I like how this one is meditative (for a drum beat…) and dig the long series of repetitions, so below are the two clips from above video, but in their entirety. *The first one has a nice little ending tag and some applause I gave myself with the branch.

And this one is just an extra take with the branch on the snare drum and the melody played with the right hand. Even though you can’t really hear the differences in these videos between the various drums since the branch is louder, I could at the kit…

Behind the paywall is a video of me explaining why I like playing these beats over and over…. How little performance problems or considerations, that aren’t evident on the written page, come up forcing me to problem solve in real time - which is fun!
