The world's first Martini Tester role has just been announced and any drinks fans in Glasgow can apply for it.

DesignMyNight are offering a position worth £1,400 in vouchers and experiences across London, including a five-star hotel stay at The Egerton House Hotel, to taste and review martinis.

The move comes as new data from DesignMyNight reveals a shift in growth towards the classic cocktail. Classic and dry martini orders surged 19.95 per cent year-on-year, even as total martini volumes dipped slightly by 3.99 per cen.

The classic is not just growing; it's actively taking market share from every other style on the menu.

Head of Brand and B2C at DesignMyNight, Katie Kirwan, said: "The country is falling back in love with the classic martini, and we want to be at the heart of that story. Creating the world's first professional Martini Tester felt like the only logical response. Someone has to do it."

With over 206,000 martinis ordered across the UK between July 2025 and June 2026, DesignMyNight wants to hire someone whose sole job is to experience and champion the very best of them.

The 'world's best job': What's included

The successful candidate will embark on the ultimate London martini tour, with up to £250 in travel expenses covered, meaning anyone who resides in the UK can enter, and £1,400 worth of vouchers and experiences at five of the capital's most celebrated venues.

These include an overnight stay, breakfast and a martini masterclass at the Egerton House Hotel, and vouchers for the likes of Bob Bob Ricard Soho, Hawksmoor Martini Bar, Murder Inc, and Archive and Myth.

How to apply to be the martini tester

You can apply via the website.

Candidates must be aged 18 or over at the date of entry and currently reside in, and have a postal address in, the United Kingdom. The winner is expected to drink responsibly and to behave appropriately at all times. T&Cs apply.

What London's best martini venues are saying

Director at The Egerton House Hotel, Alison Sawyer, said: ''The vesper martini accounts for eight out of every ten martinis we serve, and in 2025 we sold almost 2,000 more martinis than in 2024 — martinis now represent 70% of all our bar sales. Last year, Vogue crowned the martini the 'it-girl' drink of 2025, and that momentum has shown no sign of slowing.

"Every martini is served at -22°C and tailored to the individual guest, and since launching our Connoisseur Martini Experience, we've doubled the number of martini experiences enjoyed in the bar.''

Murder Inc's General Manager, Oscar Perry, added: "We created the world's first blended gin martini - which is a frozen take on the classic. It's a fantastic but extremely odd drink — turning a martini into a slushie — and as a result, while it's beloved, it's not massively popular. But for the adventurous drinker, it's an experience unlike anything else on the menu."
