What to Wear for Antiparos

There seems to be a surprising amount of commotion around what to pack for Antiparos. Particularly among the newbies.

I think this is mostly because quite a few people are arriving directly from St Tropez and are now confused.

Is it heels?
Is it Pucci again?
Do I need a beach-club wardrobe?
How do I dress like I grew up spending every summer in Europe?
What would you wear?

The answer is: relax.

Antiparos is not asking you to arrive in a full “island look.” It is not Mykonos, and it is definitely not St Tropez in disguise.

You do not need to wear every expensive thing you own at once. You do not need a different coordinated set for each lunch reservation. And unless you are exceptionally committed to the bit, you probably do not need heels.

The whole point of a Greek summer is that everything should feel a little easier.

You want clothes that can go from the beach to lunch, from lunch into town, and from town to dinner without requiring an emergency outfit change in between.

A good dress. A good pair of sandals. A colourful necklace. A bikini that does most of the work. Something oversized. Something sheer. Nothing too perfect.

The aim is to look a little avant-garde, a little European and very cool without appearing to have tried too hard.

Which, admittedly, usually requires quite a lot of thought beforehand.

So, for anyone currently staring into an open suitcase and wondering whether to pack the Pucci trousers, here are a few looks for three or four days in Antiparos.

This is where a great maxi dress earns its place in the suitcase.

I would wear the Ilya Cotton-Trimmed Maxi Dress by The Frankie Shop, with the Devon Embellished Necklace by Jennifer Behr, Geffen Sandals by Reformation and the Cocktail patent-leather bag.

Simple, but not boring. Exactly what you want when everyone else is still trying to work out whether they have overpacked.

A bikini, a fun tank, cotton shorts, jelly sandals and a very large bag. Nothing matches too perfectly, which is precisely why it works.

I would style the Rabanne Gathered Striped Tank, J.Crew Cruise Drawstring Shorts, Christopher Esber Jo Thong Sandals, the Maxi Cabas Bandana Tote by Call It By Your Name, the Golden Sol Cord Necklace and the Adriana Degreas Printed Bikini.

It feels put together, but not in the terrifyingly organised way of someone who has labelled every packing cube.
