Travel-wise, June has been somewhat of a quiet month for me. Other than a long weekend road trip through Devon and Cornwall, I’ve mostly been based in London (I shared how I plan on spending the summer months in the city in this Substack post a couple of weeks ago).
Work and life commitments have been keeping me busy - and the stifling heat has made me feel somewhat sluggish - but I have a strong case of itchy feet, and I’m excited for some more movement next month…
Below, I’m sharing my favourite hotel stay from June (a very good British boutique escape to have on your radar) and the three London restaurants I’ve loved this past month.
HOTELS I’ve loved:
This sweet farm stay nestled within Devon’s rolling hills is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for years, and I finally managed to swing by last week on the drive down to Cornwall. It’s a nine-bedroom bolthole, with six rooms in the main house and a clutch of cabins scattered across the gardens. There are colourful kitchen gardens to ramble through, and rooms feature eclectic, lovingly lived-in interiors. You’ll dine on fresh-from-the-farm fare at dinner (most likely while sitting around a communal table with other guests), wake up to a hearty breakfast the next day, and spend your days steaming off in the small sauna before taking a dip in the swimming pool.
This unsuspecting restaurant in South Kensington sits on the first floor of a quiet Victorian townhouse (and former gallery), just minutes from some of London’s most famous museums. Inside, the whitewashed, high-ceilinged dining room pairs beautiful period features with cool, contemporary furniture. Slide into one of the window banquettes and feast on seasonal British-meets-Mediterranean fare: vibrant vegetables, handmade pastas, and freshly-churned sorbets. It’s a considered, calm and elegant dining room. Think The River Cafe or Toklas, without the hype (or the waiting list).
