Sunday is around the corner. The Gathering is open. This week's reflection is below — read it slow.

I have been getting down to the water before sunrise. There is a stillness there — before the phone, before the day writes its story about who you are — where the pause I keep writing about stops being an idea and simply happens.

The sun comes up over the water like it has a thousand times, and it is still astonishing every single time. An everyday thing that is always amazing. Never lose your gratitude.

That quiet, right there, is where the first choice lives.

This week I published The First Choice Is the Pause — about the split second between what happens to you and how you answer, and where your real authority actually lives. Two lines I keep coming back to:

The power of choice is real. It is also not evenly distributed across every area of your life.

A person who knows what is theirs to carry is stronger than a person trying to carry the whole weather system.

That is not resignation. It is precision — the relief of coming out from under a false assignment, and finding the one piece of ground that is fully yours: your response.

Sit with these. One at a time. Don't rush them.

1. “Most of our suffering is not the event — it is the story that starts running the second it arrives.” Think of the last thing that spiked you this week. What story did your body start telling before your mind caught up?

A few honest answers might sound like —

Maybe the unanswered text became “they’re pulling away.”

Maybe the bill became “I’m going to lose everything.”

Maybe the silence became “I did something wrong.”

2. “The power of choice is real — but it is not evenly distributed across every area of your life.” Where have you been pouring force into the outer ring — the part that was never yours to control — when your real authority was somewhere else the whole time?

A few honest answers might sound like —

Maybe managing everyone’s moods to keep the room calm.

Maybe trying to control an outcome that was always someone else’s to decide.

Maybe carrying a family pattern that was in the house before you were.

3. “The first choice is the pause.” Where could you put one honest pause this week — one breath between the moment and your answer — and what might open up in that half-second of space?

A few honest answers might sound like —

Maybe one slow breath before you reply to the message that tightens your chest.

Maybe a walk before the hard conversation instead of after.

Maybe naming “that is just the old file opening” the next time the story starts to run.

We meet at 11:30 AM CT. We'll sit with this week's piece, and the Three Questions, together. Come receive.

P.S. Whatever you choose to do with this week's reflection — let it land somewhere real. In the body. In silence. In actual practice.
