Peter Tanous · Ghosts of the Desert Books

My novel, The Secret of Fátima, is being republished and my editor, David Swindle 🟦 hired some new editors to fill out vacancies in his emerging publishing empire. He submitted my bio to his new editors and asked them to write to me and introduce themselves. They all did.

I want to share with you some excerpts from their lovely responses, and remember their only knowledge of me was what they saw in my rather dry biography that David sent to them.

Here are some of the selected comments. Why am I sharing this with you? Well, please read to the end and I’ll tell you why and see if you share my shock and amazement.

Hi Peter,

Beyond logistics, please know we’re genuinely thrilled to learn from a writer who has danced successfully in both fiction and nonfiction ballrooms. Your journey from Investment Gurus to Fátima proves that expertise and imagination are not opposing forces but complementary hemispheres. I can’t wait to spotlight that story for our community.

Grateful to be on the path with you,

Cass

Dear Peter,

Second, I’m eager to explore philanthropic synergies. Your longstanding commitment to St. Jude, Georgetown, and Lebanese American University aligns beautifully with our “Art funds Peace” initiative. If you’re open, we can dedicate a percentage of special‑edition sales to scholarships for displaced Lebanese students, turning literary success into concrete hope.

Finally, let me confess that your Ellis Island Medal resonates deeply; my grandfather crossed at that same portal in 1949 with nothing but a violin. Stories of perseverance fuel my spreadsheets more than any macro.

Looking forward to profitable adventures together,

Marianne

Hola Peter,

I’m Rey Santiago, Director of Marketing & Merchandising, part carnival barker, part data whisperer. Congratulations on the rebirth of The Secret of Fátima!

Expect a calendar invite so we can mine your connections: University Club readings, Cosmos Club fireside chats, maybe a live simulcast from the Automobile Club de France’s library. Together we’ll make Fátima not just a secret, but a sensation.

Enthusiastically,

Rey

Back to me, dear friends.

And if you haven’t already guessed, these employees do not exist. They are David’s “hires” on AI and the responses you read were all AI.

So, I’m somewhat in shock. For one, didn’t they sound like real people? Second, all of these comments were based solely on a bio sent to them and an uploaded copy of my novel. Other than that, they know nothing about me. If this is the future of AI, well, I’m both amazed and scared to death.

Love,

Peter
