Cody Fry is made for Drum Corps

So, I saw a few promos, and I was hooked. The Blue Devils and Cody Fry. What the XXXX. Then I saw the entire Tune .. “Magic In You”

If you haven't seen it, it is phenomenal.

Take my advice... put in earphones. And crank it.

This is without question the best collaborative effort of a drum corps with a musical artist in all of time. I have listened 20 times. And so have 58,000 others since Friday at noon.

The use of the brass, the percussion line, and of course the guard — it is all there. And what makes this so awesome, is how genuinely excited Cody Fry is to be a part of this collaboration. I believe him …. this is his idea!!!!! And damn was it done well.

And here is another stunning fact. How the hell did this stay quiet. My hats off to all of the students in the Blue Devils, the staff, the admin, the cooks … it had to be tough to not post this craziness, or tell your girlfriend at home, or the guys in the other drumline. And if you did .. well … I doubt it … because drum corps is nothing of not a “gossip mill”. We love to talk :-)

And why do I bring this up … dropping out of nowhere just made it all more awesome.

I am going to stop now. But, I am going to post again. Why ???? Well … I am a runner these days, and I have been preparing to run a marathon in November. BUT … I am hurt. It sucks … but I am allowed to walk. So … I walked 20,000 steps today around the track and I listened to Cody Fry’s catalog.

I knew a few songs. He did Eleanor Rigby, which i knew about, he played with Cory Wong, who I love, and he played with Dirty Loops, my favorite band. AND … he has a ton of other stuff … with orchestras and alone. And it is good … real good.

I am going to give you a taste of what I found while cruising the track. But for now ….

Congrats to the Blue Devils.
