The Introduction To Flower Farming Workshop
Join Georgie at her flower farm in Somerset for a day looking at what it takes to become a person who grows flowers for sale.
The day is split into three sessions. During the first session, we’ll be looking at what kind of flower farmer you might like to be. For the second session, we’ll walk around the farm - Georgie encourages students to look at the farm with a very critical eye, seeing where efficiencies could be made, understanding the ethos behind the business, and so beginning to see how each student could apply what they learn on this day to their own plot, whether they already have it, or are looking for land to grow on.
A break for lunch at our local farm shop allows time for some of the information from the morning to be discussed, for the group to get to know each other better, for ideas to begin to settle in peoples’ minds. The afternoon session looks at pricing, marketing and social media. Georgie always says that growing flowers is the easy part: finding your market and selling them at a price which will mean you have enough profit to make the process worth your while is not always so obvious.
Suitable for anyone who is exploring the idea of turning their love of flower growing into a business or is in the early days of their flower farming business.

The Eco Floristry Retreat (3 Days)
Join Georgie for a glorious 3 days at the farm, where you will focus on different types of arrangements each day. Each day will start with a conversation about the arrangements you’ll be making, then you’ll set out to cut from the 3 acres of beds - whilst learning about harvesting and conditioning. After lunch at our local farm shop you will then spend time creating your arrangements.
You might be an enthusiastic amateur florist or a pro who wants to refine their sustainable floristry skills - all are welcome on this retreat.

Friday 18th June
Join Georgie for a 2 hour tour of the flower farm, as well as the wildflower meadows and habitats that make the farm a haven for wildlife. Common Farm Flowers is a business supplying a great many weddings and events through the season with flowers and foliage, as well as a teaching space.

It was so lovely to see a flower farm with no regimented lines or acres of black membrane, just naturalistic, well thought out growing spaces with biodiversity at the core. These tours are held in June because people love to see the wildflower meadow as well as the polytunnels bursting with annuals and biennials, and a kilometre of metre wide beds planted up for a long season of flowers.
The tour includes plenty of time for questions as this is not your average pleasure garden, but a working space where time is needed to explain bed management, sowing schedules, pruning and mulching, as well as how we react to infestations of slugs or thrip or greenfly.

The Flower Farming Intensive Workshop (3 days)
A 3 day workshop to help you grow your flower farming business - covering and management and growing practice for a flower and foliage crop you can rely on, business planning and marketing, cutting and conditioning your crop, and floristry (even if you aren’t a florist yourself this part of the workshop helps you understand how florists will use your flowers and foliage).
“Brilliant 3 days at the farm visiting and revisiting the nuts and bolts of running a real flower farming and artisan floristry business. Good pace, enormous amounts of practical information shared and the right amount of ‘doing’ to bring home key points on organisation and budgeting of both time and resources. Plenty of individual inspiration and support. Excellent number of students in group & what a lovely bunch! Delicious no faff lunches from a local farm shop. Not my first workshop & likely not my last.”

This is suitable for people who’ve some experience of growing flowers for sale, but who want to refine their processes, strategise to optimise their time and their crop growing, make more of their land, and make sure they are taking advantage of many different possibilities for earning which flower farming offers.
