The Prediction Trap

I was scrolling through YouTube recently, when I stumbled upon a video essay about an upcoming “Lion’s Gate Portal” (this happens August 8th annually). It’s that time of year when the internet floods with promises of “cosmic alignments,” “manifesting wealth,” and decoding the universe’s next move.

As I watched, it hit me with a familiar sense of emptiness. It felt entirely hollow. But why? It made me wonder: why are we, as a species, so obsessed with predicting the future?

You see it everywhere. The astrologer reading the stars, the technologist forecasting the next AI paradigm shift, the trader staring at candles on a screen — all symptoms of the same desire. Everyone is so desperate to know what happens next. We chase the horizon, hoping that if we can just guess the next wave, we can control it.

But true insight doesn’t come from chasing trends. It comes from understanding the underlying architecture of how things shift.
