So, you may have noticed the world is kinda shitshow-y.

In my creator ecosphere, there’s a feeling that making art right now—and even more so, promoting it—is wrong.

That, with everything going on and everything we’re witnessing, creating and talking about comics, music, books, etc., feels small, trite, or even disrespectful.

And the more I think about it, the more I fall squarely on the side of—Right now, creating and celebrating art is crucial.

Cuz, frankly, that’s what the motherfuckers want right now—to crush spirits. To make us feel hopeless. So break our community and connections.

FUCK! THAT!

There is only one person in this entire world who has your voice. And I’m begging you, don’t surrender it. Use it!

I want to see what you’re working on. I want to hear your voice. I want to spend some time in your imagination.

I want to know you got that rush of making a thing. Of making a breakthrough. That you got to celebrate the “Oh, shit! It worked!” moment.

Those are exciting. They’re invigorating. They’re the fuel that keeps us going.

I want that for you! Because you fucking deserve it.

Even if what engages and captivates you isn’t as forward-facing or “mass market,” I’m telling you, it’s worth it!

I have multiple friends who do silks. Every time they post a new video of them nailing a new move or performing a new routine, it fills me with the same HELL YEAH as when a friend launches a new Kickstarter.

Same for friends who hit a new PR at the gym. HELL YEAH!

Or my son wanting to take a ceramics class outside of school. He took a ceramics class in high school and fell in love with creating little creatures. He enjoyed it so much that he found an outside ceramics class that’s going to let him come in once a week and keep making creatures.

The moment he told us about the class and asked if he could take it, we said YUP!

Because it’s about trying, exploring, learning, and staying curious.

Do I think this is the path to some career in ceramics? Probably not.

But he gets to express himself, and I have no doubt that along the way he’ll learn something about the craft and himself. He’ll see himself improve. He’ll meet new people.

He’ll have FUN!

I’m begging you, if you have the opportunity to add some joy into your life—especially now—do it!

I don’t care if it’s a 120-page graphic novel, a 3-song EP, or some crayons and a coloring book—you deserve to have fun, find joy, and express yourself.

Also, you have no idea how your joy will spread when others find it.

Giving someone an hour’s worth of joyful distraction is worth it.

Breaking someone’s doom scroll by giving them a reason to say HELL YEAH is worth it.

Planting the seed for someone else to say, “Oh, I think I’d like to try that,” is worth it.

Share your voice. Share your loves. Share your enthusiasm.

And I know it’ll be hard. I know there might be a trigger that says, “Is this in bad taste?”

If you come with love and positivity, you’ll be welcome.

Also, I think we’re tougher than we give ourselves credit for. We can stare down the horrors together AND cheerlead for each other at the same time.

There’s never going to be a “right time.” There’s just right now.

Keep your voice strong!

The world needs it.

Have you ever had a loved one pass and while you dealt with your grief, your family members squabble over the remains of the loves one possessions? Now imagine how difficult that would be if those family member were supervillains.

It’s a great twist, and I’m looking forward to seeing this idea play out.

Vxd is a high-stakes conspiracy thriller that explores the connection between facts and greater truth.

It’s a 40-page black and white comic is science-adjacent fiction set against modern-day paranoia. It follows a day in the life of James Johnson—a once-respected cybersecurity expert now reduced to cleaning toilets. Ironically, this makes him the perfect man for the job.

When he discovers evidence of a secret project, James finds himself in the center of a terrifying plan to reshape the world. And he’s the only one who can stop it.

Or at least, that’s what he thinks.

This feels like an intriguing, big-idea swing, and in a one-shot format, it was easy to back it.
