Social media is where your opinion content gets its legs. Think of platforms like Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram as megaphones that blast your ideas out to people who haven’t found you yet. These aren’t the places where you’ll earn most of your money directly.

They’re the places where you’ll build your audience and drive traffic back to your monetized home base on Substack or Medium. Every social media post you make is a doorway that leads people to the content that actually pays you.

Short-form content is king right now, and opinion-based short-form content is especially powerful. A sixty-second video of you sharing a hot take on something that’s been bothering you can rack up thousands of views.

A punchy text post on Facebook that makes people stop scrolling and think can get shared dozens of times in an hour. These platforms are designed to push content that gets reactions, and opinions are reaction magnets. You don’t need to dance, do comedy skits, or learn complicated editing software. You just need to talk about what you think.

TikTok might sound like a platform for teenagers, but it’s not anymore. The fastest-growing demographic on TikTok is adults over fifty. Older creators are thriving there because the audience is hungry for something different from the usual content.

A simple video of you sitting in your living room talking about why modern customer service has gone downhill can outperform a polished video from a bigger creator. The platform rewards content that keeps people watching and responding, not content that looks expensive or flashy.

YouTube Shorts works the same way. These are vertical videos under sixty seconds that YouTube pushes to massive audiences through their recommendation feed. Facebook and Instagram both have similar short-form video features called Reels.

Across all of these platforms, the strategy is the same. Share a strong opinion in a short, direct format, and let the platform do the heavy lifting of finding people who want to hear it. You’re planting seeds every time you post, and some of them will grow into full-blown audience members.

You don’t even have to show your face if you don’t want to. Some of the most popular opinion creators use text-on-screen videos with a voiceover or background music. Others use simple images with a caption overlay.

The “faceless creator” approach works especially well for people who are camera-shy or just prefer to keep their privacy. The opinion is what matters, not whether people can see your face while you share it. A strong take delivered through text on a screen can hit just as hard as one delivered on camera.

The real magic happens when you connect your social content back to your Substack or Medium page. Every short video or post should give people a reason to go find your longer content.

A quick TikTok that shares one angle of a bigger topic can end with a simple call to action. Something like “I wrote more about this on my Substack — link in my bio” is all you need.

That’s how social media becomes your traffic engine. You’re using free platforms to reach people, then funneling the interested ones toward the content that puts money in your pocket.

Don’t overlook Facebook, either. If you’re already active there, you’ve got a head start that most new creators would love to have. Your existing friends and connections are your first audience.

Share your opinion posts on your personal profile or start a dedicated page for your creator content. Facebook groups related to your topic area are another powerful tool. Engaging in groups and sharing your perspective naturally leads people to check out your profile, where they’ll find links to your Substack or Medium page.

The consistency piece matters here just like it does everywhere else. You don’t need to post on every platform every day. Pick two social platforms and commit to showing up there a few times a week with short, opinion-driven content.

A quick post in the morning, a short video in the afternoon, a comment thread you jump into with a strong perspective — all of those things keep you visible. They work together to drive new people toward your monetized content. Think of social media as the front door and your Substack or Medium page as the living room where the real conversations happen.

You don’t need to show your face. Text-on-screen videos, voiceover formats, and simple caption posts work just as well for opinion content. The idea matters more than the production.
