pluralcensus : The final google form for the plural census is not ready yet, but there is a google form for submitting questions you’d like to see on it . What is the plural census? It is currently a work in progress project that will hopefully turn into a yearly survey, and the main idea of it all is “What is your experience with being plural?” whether you answer for yourself or…

The Gender Census 2026 is now closed!

Stay tuned for the report. :)

gendercensus : The 2026 Gender Census is now open! [ survey.gendercensus.com ] The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026. I think you’ve talked about this before, but I just wanted to verify: are you okay with people using the spreadsheet data to make country- or region-specific reports?

Yep! :) That's why the country question is compulsory! [ 5 hours remaining to participate in the 2026 Gender Census! ]

I am very sorry other plural folks are coming after you and I don’t understand the hostility. Even in Plural centric surveys [actual academic ones! They do exist!] You are often asked to fill out information as collectively as possible per body because the purpose is to gather information about an experience, and it is nearly useless to gather alter specific information in an academic setting unless it is extremely granular. I’ve helped with surveys for sociology studies for non singlet individuals at the academic level, you are handling it absolutely professionally. Could there be better systems? Probably, but to the best of our ability you are doing a professional job [especially with your wording asking for “one response per body” and not “per person” or “per person or System” which are exclusive of multiple system bodies and singles out plural folks]

I am very sorry other plural folks are coming after you and I don't understand the hostility. Ahhh it's not so bad - I think people are understandably feeling erased and unheard, and occasionally they do get a bit intense about it, but for the most part I think people are just doing their best. I also kinda get why plural folks hope that the Gender Census could be the project to finally see them,…

since i found out about the survey i was really curious how many people from my country also participated and it makes me really happy that (as of right now) the number of participants from my country almost doubled compared to last year! there’s a bunch of us out there and it gives me so much joy :3

We love to see it! 😊 [ Help double someone's country's participation here, 8 hours left ]

A lot of the asks I see that are upset the survey doesn’t ask a certain question or track a certain experience seem to me to be missing the point of the survey. (And I did too, for awhile! This wasn’t something I understood until recently, and I’ve been following this for years.) As I understand it, the survey is specifically about trends in the *language used* by a group of people historically unincluded/unconsidered by language. There is not established vocabulary for our identities and experiences so we have to make it ourselves, and this survey is trying to aggregate and analyze how we do that. It’s not about what our identities or experiences of gender *are*, it’s about how we talk about them. I wonder if there are ways you can be more clear about the purpose of the survey within the survey itself that would help clear up the misconceptions?

Yeah you get it!! Like, I get a lot of people in the feedback box saying things like "you should ask when we transitioned" or "you should ask what sex people were assigned at birth" or "you should find out how people present in terms of clothing etc" or "ask about experiences with discrimination." But no! Language only! Linguistics, not sociologics! So many people are studying all that other…

fox-c-rabbit : Plural experiences form question ideas This is kind of an ideas-gathering survey to get ready for a survey, so I think it’s probably okay for me to reblog despite our heavy nonbinary bias! It’s a response to an ask post about plural participation from yesterday.

Please include some sort of “I am plural; voting as a collective/system” and “I am plural; voting as a headmate/alter” in the next year census. and also options for genderfluid folks, like “my gender changes; the terminology i want people to use does Or does not”. It is isolating and depressing that so many intricate gender experiences are completely barred from being shared accurately. I do not like having to pretend I am just one multigender person that happens to use multiple sets of pronouns, instead of multiple people who have their own unique relationships to gender, labels and pronouns. i am not the only one whos part of a system & wishes the gender census actually included us instead of explicitly saying we should mask or implicitly saying we shouldnt participate. as it currently stands, lack of plural inclusion also messes with your data, as it generally “generates” more multigender people using multiple different terms. it muddies the water of actual multigender people and the terms they use for themselves. please, please do include us next year. aplogies of any of this is too direct/stern or rambly, im sure you understand that constant suppression of ones identity will upset those affected. 🥲

This is one for the FAQs, I think? Please see A, B and E from the list below, which I've bolded for convenience: The survey discriminates against/excludes me Things that are not discrimination or exclusion: A. Refraining from asking questions about out-of-scope topics; B. A checkbox list that doesn’t contain every single term a participant may wish to choose, especially when ample text boxes are…

hi! your website doesn’t load properly for me and i was wondering if it’s because i’m in russia. if so, could you please fix it somehow? i would really love to participate in this survey

I would love to bug-test this with you but I cannot do that via Tumblr anon-message! So, here are some steps for you: Try loading it in a different browser. Try the https://tally.so homepage. Tally is the survey host, so if you can see their homepage then you should be able to see the survey (https://survey.gendercensus.com). ALT We went from 30,000 to 50,000 so fast that I didn’t have a chance to make the 40,000 pic! Did you put your gender on inside-out this morning? Do this survey !

In the participation spreadsheet, the countries section has that list of countries with under 10 participants. I think there’s some countries in the data section that aren’t in the list? Unless I’m checking it wrong.

Oh yes, whoops, missed something from copying last year's participation spreadsheet! It should be correct now. :) [ The participation spreadsheet // Country page ] [ Take part in the 2026 Gender Census before 13th August 2026 ]

Do you ever delete data because it doesn’t necessarily align with what you think should be an answer to the questions out of assumption that it might be misunderstanding the question? I ask because since this year you ask about terms for girlfriend/boyfriend-adjacent terms and specified not married and not engaged. I understood the question fine and wrote ‘wife’ because I think wife is very cute and would want to be called that even though I don’t ever want to be married, but now I’m worried my answer could be deleted thinking I’m misunderstanding when I understood just fine.

Nope! [ Take part in the 2026 Gender Census before 13th August 2026 ]

If I use a pronoun set that I do not believe is gender-exclusive but I do believe is something else exclusive, do I mark it as gender inclusive? (Yes this is about shi/hir)

Just want to be clear that I get a lot more nice anonymous messages than annoying ones, but I often don’t post the nice ones because making your dashboard full of posts that are like “thanks anon that’s very nice of you!” would be kind of boring and I don’t want to look like I’m trying to make myself look awesome or whatever. :D I sometimes reply to the rubbish…
