Meet Altars,
the first door to this new chapter.
.𖥔 ˖
I wrote it last summer, the last song written of all the songs I pushed myself to finish. It made sense to me to release this one first, like a prelude or genesis to everything coming after it.
One big challenge for me was to be honest with this next project. I've spent a long time hiding inside the metaphor. Stacking image on top of image until the thing I actually meant was buried so deep even I forgot where I put it. I wanted to get to the bottom of everything without burying anything anymore. To look directly. You must know how hard it is to look directly at something you try to hide.
I'm pretty sure I got it by the end of the exercise. I'm really proud of what I made, and it starts with Altars.
She talks about love and pain. The pain you receive and the love you're trying to give and hold in the same place as all this pain, all this violence living in the same body. Not beside each other, but in the same place. I joke when I say that it's written by a hopeless romantic who is actually really afraid of love, but it's not far from the truth. -`♡´- She's the main door, the big fat entrance you can't miss to the rest of the story. Big and red, obvious and in plain sight.
This time I chose to do the things about differently.
There are a few ways to carry the song with you, and I want to tell you about them.
I created a space where you can support this project and receive the songs and other items in a digital format or to your door.
The simplest is just the song alone, the audio, yours to keep even when the internet ends. Then there’s The Digital Collection, which goes a little further: you receive the song, the artwork, the lyrics, a collection of photographs in high definition and a digital card of the first key - I’ll explain that later.
The Letter Collection is the one I’m most attached to. I make it by hand, and it’s only available until May 1st. A letter arrive at your door, the lyrics are handwritten, you receive some prints, and the first key - something real you can hold, or leave somewhere and find again someday.
About the keys: each single on this record has one. Altars is the first door, so she carries the first key. There will be others as the songs come, and if you collect them all, something is waiting for you at the end. I don’t want to say what yet.
Every purchase goes directly back into the work, so that I can keep making it. So thank you, genuinely, if you do.
Tomorrow I am having a release party, I truly can’t wait, it’s in a church so obviously i’m super super excited as there is something truly special in playing in a church, also it’ SOLD OUT which is completely insane. I’ll show you the pictures next time.
