DJI Drones Compared

When people ask which DJI drone they should buy, my answer is almost always the same: it depends on what you want to do.

No single drone is the best at everything. That's why I own several of them. Some are built to disappear into a backpack, others are designed for cinematic photography, while others are simply the most fun aircraft DJI has ever produced.

Each one fills a different role, and after flying all of them I've found myself reaching for different drones depending on the day.

DJI Neo Three-Battery Combo = https://geni.us/NqVbjMI

The DJI Neo surprised a lot of people. Instead of trying to compete with larger camera drones, DJI built something that is incredibly simple and approachable. It's small enough that I throw it in a bag, and it can be airborne in just a few moments.

For hiking, vacations, neighborhood flights, or grabbing a quick social media clip, the Neo is hard to beat. It isn't trying to produce Hollywood footage. Instead, it removes nearly every barrier between deciding you want to fly and actually getting into the air.

The tradeoff is that its small size limits camera quality and wind performance, but that's expected.

NEO excels because it is always with you.

DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo = https://geni.us/QcOVnq

If I'm heading somewhere specifically to capture photos or video, there's a good chance the Mini 3 is coming with me.

The image quality is excellent, the battery life is outstanding, and staying under the 250 gram mark makes it incredibly convenient to travel with. It produces footage that looks professional without requiring a large drone or complicated setup.

This is the drone I've used the most because it simply gets the job done. Whether I'm filming Arizona landscapes, recording B-roll for YouTube, or documenting an event, the Mini 3 consistently delivers.

DJI Neo 2 Fly More Combo = https://geni.us/QjwuYd

The Neo 2 takes everything the original Neo did well and improves nearly every part of the experience.

The camera is better, the tracking is smarter, obstacle sensing has improved, and it handles challenging conditions with more confidence. It still feels like the drone you can carry everywhere, but it has matured into a much more capable aircraft.

For someone who values convenience above everything else, the Neo 2 may become the easiest recommendation in DJI's lineup.

DJI Avata 360 Fly More Combo = https://geni.us/GqBf

The newest member of the collection may also be the most interesting.

The Avata 360 combines immersive FPV flying with full 360-degree video capture. Instead of deciding exactly where the camera points during the flight, it records everything around the drone. Later, you choose the framing during editing.

That completely changes how you think about flying.

Rather than worrying about missing the perfect camera angle, you simply concentrate on flying a smooth path and build the shot afterward. For YouTube creators and anyone producing cinematic content, that's an incredibly powerful capability.

DJI Flip Fly More Combo = https://geni.us/BzaKy22

The Flip feels like DJI listened to everyone who wanted something between the Neo and the Mini series.

It keeps the easy-to-carry design while offering noticeably better image quality and more capable flying. If someone asked me for a beginner drone that could still grow with them for several years, the Flip would be near the top of the list.

It isn’t the smallest drone DJI makes, nor is it the most advanced. Instead, it finds an excellent balance that makes it one of the easiest drones to recommend.

DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo = https://geni.us/6DDnAO

The Avata 2 changed the reason I fly.

Traditional drones are really flying cameras. The Avata 2 is an experience.

Putting on the goggles completely changes how flying feels. Instead of carefully positioning a camera hundreds of feet away, you’re suddenly flying through trails, around trees, and across open landscapes from the pilot’s perspective.

It also happens to produce remarkably smooth video, making it useful for creators who want exciting movement that simply isn’t possible with a traditional camera drone.

If I'm going somewhere specifically to capture beautiful aerial footage, I still grab the Mini 3.

If I just want to enjoy flying, nothing beats the Avata 2.

If I'm traveling light, it's one of the Neo models.

If I want maximum creative flexibility in editing, the Avata 360 becomes the obvious choice.

The Flip lands comfortably in the middle, offering an excellent balance of portability, ease of use, and image quality.
