Look, son,
Even in the darkest hours of war,
never stop searching for life.
Protect your dreams
as you navigate the ruins of your stolen life,
as the drone returns again to your doorstep.
Never let go of life
as you lend your ears to the scary, loud, and long nights of war,
as hope seems so heavy to carry in the dark.
As you walk alone to my grave,
never let go of the
life they stole from me
Mohammed Moussa, a Palestinian poet and journalist from Gaza, highlights the struggles and resilience of his people through evocative poetry. He founded the Gaza Poets Society in 2018 to support young writers, and was shortlisted for the 2022 Freedom of Expression Awards. Moussa's work reflects the complex realities of life in Gaza, blending personal and communal experiences.
This poem first appeared in Mohammad Mousa's poetry volume, "I Was Born in Gaza," in 2014.
