I feel like I’m failing at festivalling this year. We’ve booked in two kids’ shows* and that’s going to be our lot I think.
(Unless anyone throws me a freebie, of course. I’m always open to freebies!)

I’ve come across this show a couple of times before in other venues outwith festival time and it looks beautiful. You and your baby are free to explore the immersive, sensory experience together for 3 hours, dipping in and out as needed. Perfect.

This interactive exhibition will showcase the work of local clockmaker, Ian Graham with all sorts of wooden machines like ball runs and drawing apparatus.

📍 Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Newhaven
Also taking place on the 29th, this sounds amazing for all creative youngsters - which is, all youngsters! “Fair Play is a collaborative fairground world created by 124 pupils from Trinity and Victoria Primary Schools as part of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop's Schools Programme. Bringing together 23 imagined parks and attractions, the exhibition is home to pickle portals, axolotl rides, astro dogs, football worlds, floating islands, gift shops staffed by carrots and even a meteor crashing into Marge Simpson.”

🎪 Heather on the Hill Festival

Young festivalgoers can enjoy face painting, immersive story sessions, arts and crafts, workshops, kids yoga, messy play, a dedicated music and singing tent, lively funfair attractions and a cast of roaming entertainers who will bring the site to life from start to finish.”

We’ve been to Sprog Rock a few times, simply put, it’s a rock concert for preschoolers and it's great craic!

📍 Children’s Tent, Book Festival
My kids had a brilliant time at one of these events at the museum a few months ago. Really engaging storytelling with interactive drumming and songs plus a cute wee craft activity. Drop in every hour from 10.00-15.00 for a half hour session.

Part of the Disney Princess Season which has been running from the 18th-14th Aug and includes Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Tangled.

📚 Bookbug at the Museum (0-4y) 09.30-10.00 🐣🐤🆓
📍 Museum of Scottish Fire Heritage, Leith
Bookbug sessions are held weekly in libraries all over town and are a wonderful way to introduce your little ones to the magic of books and storytelling. This one has the added bonus of being in the Museum of Scottish Fire Heritage. Know anyone who likes fire engines?
