To my US readers, happy Fourth. To my non-US readers, does anyone have a beach house I can live in until this wretched heat wave passes? Mother Nature decided 101 would be the temperature for maybe one of the busiest weekends in D.C. — and thus I won’t be leaving my house all weekend if I can help it. I popped out briefly to get an ice cream cone this evening and saw no fewer than three medical emergencies happening on the way. If you’re enduring the heat this weekend, please take it easy and stay safe. You are not invincible.

• Marc Jacobs Spring 27. I’m awash with feelings about this collection, four minutes spent washed in jewel tones and organza.

  With just 31 looks, you get the feeling of abundant joy and crystal optimism, which makes me think this show was about the proposal of a new attitude altogether. My favorite looks, shown below, remind me of basically everything I ever reblogged on Tumblr, the outright rejection of restraint, and frankly, the wardrobe I was promised in the early 2000s. The color combinations deserve their own separate praise entirely; compositionally speaking they avoid expectations and breathe new life into closets optimized for algorithms. In fact, every piece proves viable for life—everything is so wearable despite each garment’s quest to embrace visible artifice. Also, when was the last time you saw the lines of American sportswear and underwear blurred in service of play instead of seduction?
