Morning routine

For the past 3 years I've been working from home, and it comes with many challenges. One of them is waking up, and going straight to the office. You know what I'm talking about, don't you? :) So I decided to make a habit of morning trekking to my home office. I figured out 3 loops that I can make, more or less 45-50 minutes long (~6000 steps). And after a while it became a habit of mine. Doing…

Don't fear change, embrace it

Almost exactly year ago, I've posted this . What can I say a year later? Don't hesitate. Just-do-it! It wasn't easy at first, but so very exciting - discovering, exploring, learning, embracing. Enough to say - the team is great, the company is solid, the tech is modern. Remember - always is the right time, for anything.

"May you live in interesting times"

Well, lets recap the last 4 years: 2019: pandemic begins. 2022: cold war #2 begins. 2023: alien invasion begins I'd laugh out loud. Really. And then, probably, I'd have been burned by the alien death rays.

2022 summary

Well, I can still pretty well remember the beginning of '22. And yet, here we are - at the end of it. Time flies fast, do what you have to do, while you still can. Anyhoo, it's been a good year, I have to admit. Let's summarize it! Things that went well: Covid menace moved away (for a time) I had great holidays this year, first Malta, then a bike trip I changed my job (better tech, better salary!)…

The holy grail of terminal colors

It's more like a note to self again than for the others, but stay a while and listen. As a linux user, I spend plenty of my time in terminal. I have to admit it (and I'm not ashamed): I love tweaking its colors. Such tiny little details make a lot of difference in terms of readability. And recently I found the holy grail of terminal colors. Ladies and gentleman, please welcome: Gogh ! If you're…

The rise of Skynet

We all know what Skynet is, right? The super intelligent network from mid '90, that took over the world in a parallel universe. And we all know, it didn't happen. Yet. But it's lurking just around the corner, patiently waiting for its turn to emerge, with tools like Stable diffusion. Stable Diffusion is a latent text-to-image diffusion model, you can find it here to try it out yourself. Lets also…

Fear of change

I've spent the last 12 years in one company. That's a long, long time for an IT developer. Despite some people laughing about it, and some encouraging me to change it, I've stood my ground. And yet, the day has come for a change. It's hard, I have to admit that. I'm both terrified and excited. The reasons for a change: tech debt in my current company, fear of going rusty more money (with economic…

How did Netflix waste my time

Stranger Things series is a phenomena of sorts. Season one was something new, re-lighting the nostalgia deep inside all of us born in '80. Kids, mystery, darkness, role-playing games, bikes and music - that all made it work like a well oiled machinery. Season two has changed the formula a bit, turning more towards Alien 2-like series - more of the same, but with less mystery. And much like with…

Battlestar Galactica

I just realized, its been 18 (!) years since the first episode of Battlestar Galactica (remake) series. Wow, 18 years! Undisputedly one of the best, and my personal favourite SF show. So say we all!

Batman: Unburied

I listen to podcasts a lot, and by a lot I mean around 3 or 4 hours a day. This post will be about one lucky find, and - oh boy! - what a find it is! It's called Batman: Unburied (available on Spotify ). It's grim, it's atmospheric, and it's still airing (currently 8 episodes, ~30mins each). It's also somewhat different than the Batman widely known, because Bruce Wayne is merely a forensic…
