Hello friend,
I’m on a road trip this week, travelling through the Kootenays in southeastern British Columbia. The driving kicked off in Osoyoos, which is one of my favourite places in the province due to its unique desert microclimate.
Anyone who has been on this road trip knows just how many microclimates you pass through. Thanks to our dramatic mountain ranges and the winds from the Pacific Ocean, you can drive from sun to thundershowers, and watch the temperature soar and plummet within 30 minutes.
My favourite stops along the way have been the many Hot Springs such as Nakusp, Halfway, and Ainsworth. Throughout it all, I’ve been armed with my book on the native plants of BC, gawking at the lush mountains lined with vibrant wildflowers. It’s been a treat to have enough time to fully enjoy the region and visit all the welcoming mountain towns.
I know my Canadian and American friends are celebrating holidays and time off this week, so I hope everyone is getting a bit of summer paradise. If you’re spending time in the garden, get inspired by this week’s photos of Osoyoos and its drought-tolerant landscape.
