Shantesh Patil · Games and Stories

I love stories. From the ones that my grandparents told me to the ones I discovered in the library in school. As I grew older and discovered video games, I found myself gravitating to the ones with remarkable stories.

Stories come from everywhere but the ones that are present in the best video games marry storytelling and interactivity in a way that can never be achieved by other forms of art.

This newsletter aims to highlight games which are exceptional at the stories they tell in a way only games can. I wanted to set down a few expectations in terms of what games I wanted to highlight in the newsletter.

  • There will be no chronological order for the games that will be featured. I will just send them out as I remember them.

  • I will try not to veer into full spoiler territory unless necessary.

  • I don't aim to highlight the best games with stories. To begin with there will only be games that I have personally experienced.

  • In the future if this thing grows, I will also start to with suggestions from friends and readers as well.

  • Please keep in my mind these are my highly subjective picks. My aim is to build a community around specific types of games and let people find more games of the kind they love.

NOTE: Adventure games as compared to other genres tend to feature much deeper stories. Since I neither play many adventure games these days nor would I like to skew towards a particular genre I would like to feature games across all genres.

For now, I will try to keep an easy to achieve bimonthly schedule.
