Hello dear friends, writers and Earth beings.

Here are your weekly suggestions for kickstarting your writing.

From the Ruins

Tell a story about what grows from the wreckage or destruction of something. Here are some examples of “the ruins”:

A house has been torn down
A forest has been clear-cut
A construct of the protagonist’s reality has suddenly been proven false
A marriage has ended
A dream has been abandoned

What can grow from the ruins that wasn’t possible before? Not in a tidy, happy-ending way, but in a way that acknowledges both what was lost and what the rubble makes room for.

The Never Ending Story

What is the story within your story that is always shifting and becoming — one that may never be finished? One that may continue evolving throughout your life (or your protagonist’s)? What is the story within your story that won’t end when you finish writing, but will continue to live on after the last line is written?

As always these are yours to play with — let them open you to new ways of writing or thinking about your writing. Our writing group found some riches in these prompts. And, yes, the play on the movie title was intentional, my dears.

Onward

My hosted writing groups are a calm, friendly time to meet and write together. We get pages written and we enjoy the company of other writers while we do it. We meet every Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:30 pm PT and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:30 am PT.

If you’d like to join us live, a paid subscription is just $15 a month and gives you access to every session.

With love,
Gail
