Claude AI monitors our Slack messages IN REAL TIME. Amazing.

We are headed to a world where AI monitors everything at work 24/7 and both responds and contributes.

Let me explain.

Claude has a feature called Claude Tag that lets us add Claude as a virtual employee in each Slack channel at GAI Insights.

Claude is now no different from any human employee. He monitors the channel, responds when asked a question, and posts when he can contribute.

Here are two use cases.

1. Send a prompt to Claude without leaving Slack.

In Slack, I can type “@claude build me a table comparing the current US open-weight models.” It works just as if I typed the prompt into Claude directly. Claude runs the query and posts the answer in the channel. I never had to leave Slack.

2. Claude monitors the channel and responses proactively, without being asked.

The screenshot below shows this. Irina on our team flagged a webinar social post that was missing the “m” in the time (it has 4p instead of 4pm). Claude read the thread and CLAUDE RESPONDED IN SLACK WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED.

I have told my team repeatedly that I don’t want any decision of consequence made without Claude’s input.

Now we have a digital employee with a PhD in every subject taking part in every work conversation on Slack.

This is like the “driver assist” in my car, where AI monitors my driving on the highway and beeps if I drift into another lane.

In three to five years, we will be shocked that companies once operated without AI monitoring every work activity 24/7.

“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

P.S. I want real-time AI monitoring in sales calls on Zoom (we use Fathom)

Answer: The agent responds only when asked or when it spots a clear gap, like a typo in a scheduled post or a factual error in a thread. Teams get a subject expert on demand without leaving Slack, which cuts context switching and shortens the path from question to answer. Set clear norms for when the agent posts so signal stays high.

Answer: An always-on agent reads sensitive discussions, so you need channel-level access rules, data retention limits, and a clear policy on what the agent stores and shares. Start by scoping the agent to specific channels and excluding legal, HR, and deal-sensitive spaces until controls are proven. Document who can invoke it and audit its posts on a regular cadence.

Answer: Track decision speed and error catches, not activity volume. Measure how often the agent surfaces a mistake before it ships, how much faster teams resolve questions inside Slack, and whether decisions improve when the agent contributes. Run it in two or three high-traffic channels first, then expand once the impact is real and repeatable.
