News Director at KWVA 88.1FM

The moment I stepped on to the University of Oregon’s campus in 2022, I knew that I wanted to get involved with campus radio.

Raised by a father who reflected fondly on the experience of DJing at his college station in the 1980s, my perception of on-campus radio was always one of awe and coolness.

Though, I wasn’t spinning vinyl or making playlists, but rather producing talk-show style programs for the news department.

Throughout my freshman year, I got my reps in producing 30-minute long entertainment news podcasts for the news desk, learning how to write for the ear, edit using Adobe Audition, and source interesting sounds.

This experience came full circle in 2025, when I was going into my senior year at UO, and got hired to be KWVA’s news director.

In this position, I manage a team of 8-12 student reporters, lead weekly meetings, facilitate pitch development and source outreach, write host copy, archive broadcasts, assist in editing help, and endlessly encourage my team to produce the content that amps them up.

I also started our departments social media presence with the @kwvanews Instagram account, which is monitored and maintained by one of my amazing assistant directors.

We go live every Monday at 7PM on 88.1FM from the KWVA studios in the Erb Memorial Union basement. If you’re in Eugene, Springfield, or Oakridge and get the chance… tune in! You might hear about local live music, coverage of student protests, or a silly radio play about saving the environment.
