I'm trying to work out how to carry a scope on my bicycle in a way that lets me deploy it quickly, for birdwatching. Aka quickscope cyclobirding . At first I'd just stick the scope in a pannier and strap the tripod to the bike rack. But the tripod would rattle, and assembling scope and tripod at each stop is too slow. I want to be able to do many short stops. My setup now is: Piece of foam cut to…
(The original "part 3" was using a Xiaomi Mi Band 4 which worked but not very well.) When the Pebble watches were "resurrected" I ordered one and it arrived a little while ago. It seems like the perfect watch to display glucose data. It looks like this right now: The setup is: Minimed app reads data from insulin pump xDrip app reads data from Minimed's notification xDrip app pushes glucose data…

This is how I play: Meld Value 100 50 1000 200 300 400 500 600 Four of a kind 2x three of a kind 500 750 1500 Notes: When one player reaches 10 000 all other players get one chance to exceed their score, regardless of who started I don't count three pairs as anything -- inspired by some guy who once said "Æ lik itj folk som spille me tre par" "Utgang på tusen" I guess we decide on a per-game basis
The little label is approximately 35 by 18 mm. Why that's not written anywhere is beyond me. Remember that the upper part of label is obscured if you look down at the button.
Hvem veit.
If you have one of those hand grinders with no reference point for the grind setting, you can drill a little pit or two in the metal to act as one. (I tried marking it with a file first, but that didn't really work.) This is a Timemore Chestnut C3 grinder, but I'm sure the same works for a bunch of other grinders. Note to self: I made the drill mark at a setting that's good for a two cup V60…
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 18. In the week or so leading up to the diagnosis, I drank a lot of water, which is a common symptom. But in my mind, I was drinking the water because "it's healthy to drink a lot of water." Somehow my brain had explained the behaviour that later turned out to not be a genuine, deliberate choice. How odd is that?
These brakes did not last long enough. I've used them since 2023, including winter cycling in salt and snow, which is what killed them. The front brake piston no longer returns to the open position after braking. It seems you can get 1-2 winters out of them, in harsh conditions. They were pretty good while they lasted. A bit annoying to frequently have to adjust the little screw as the pads wear…
Howdy, If your V60 sort of clogs when brewing into a vacuum flask or other container that fits snugly to it, drill a hole to let out the pressure and allow the coffee to flow normally:

Her er oversikta "Lorten fjorten", over giftstoffer Folkeopplysningen anbefaler å unngå. Fra episoden Gift fra 2022. Kjekk å henvise til når man prater om giftstoffer. Cycling west from Oppdal, Google Maps will suggest this side road: That's Fv513. The main road is Rv70. Choose Fv513 if you don't like traffic. Rv70 has a lot of 80 km/h traffic when the walk/cycle path ends after around 8 km. The remaining 12 km to Lønset you're riding in traffic. Fv513 is a bit hillier, but the views are mostly obstructed by trees. It's roughly half tarmac half dirt/gravel. You…
Update (2025): This no longer works :-( The Yr weather app recently got a redesign and I think it's made it worse. If you agree and want the old one back: Install version 5.21.19 . I used the APKPure app, which makes it straightforward. I'm sure there are many alternatives.
I've used git bisect for a long time but never really took the time to learn git bisect run . It turns out to be super simple and extremely useful. You just start the bisect git bisect start <bad commit> <good commit> and tell it which command to run to test the commits git bisect run bash -c '<make, or whatever>' Then you can go have a coffee while the computer does your job.
I've had Panasonic GX7 camera since around 2015. The rear dial, used for exposure compensation, stopped working properly some time back and I've wanted to get it fixed. It looks like this and turns out to be possible but kind of finicky to replace: You'll need The camera A replacement rear dial (part number K0RE00300029, I found one on AliExpress for $30, kinda steep but ok) A good PH000…
Bottom line first: Guardian Monitor on the Apple Watch Series 3 is nice, but drains the battery too fast. My second attempt was using the third party Guardian Monitor app, which has Apple Watch support. It's pretty sleek! But the communication has to go through Medtronic's CareLink servers, which means the network looks like this: There are now six nodes and a web server, just to transmit a few…
Bottom line first: Medtronic Mobile on the Apple Watch Series 3 does not work well. I've had type 1 diabetes for something like 15 years, and I recently decided to try to get my glucose levels displayed on a wristwatch. It seems much more convenient than checking my pump, which is not always easily available, especially in the winter when it's hidden under layers of clothes. I generally dislike…
When I moved into my current home, the utensils drawer didn't have any dividers. I intended to get some but I never really got around to it. Eventually, I realized that simply pouring the clean utensils from the dishwasher's basket is both fun and very quick. Finding a specific utensil later, even though they're all mixed up, doesn't seem to take longer than usual. The only downside I've found so…
I needed to replace my bicycle's cassette, but I couldn't find my chain whip tool. Did not work Wrapping the cassette in a towel and trying to hold by hand (similar to this guy using a leather glove ). Did work Putting together a makeshift chain whip with an old chain and vice grips. (It didn't occur to me to take a photo until after, so the photo is staged, with the new cassette and chain...)
My father and I recently tried to unstick a stuck carbon fibre kayak paddle. The most common advice I found online was to use heat, but that didn't work for us. But this worked: Wrap some old bicycle inner tube around each half, to give extra friction Tie any strap/rope to one part of the oar, using an icicle hitch Tie a ratcheting strap to the other part, same knot Attach the loose ends to…
If you're riding your bike from Trondheim towards Inderøya, you'll likely end up on one of these routes between Leksvik and Mosvik: The upper road is the common choice, and it is as you would expect: A bit hilly, with good tarmac, and some traffic. Meanwhile, the low road is alluring: Close to the sea, certainly very little traffic, quaint and rural. Maybe with great views? After riding the upper…
