Hellooo hellooo, welcome to the new edition of Fueler weekly
I was recently having a conversation with an experienced marketer who has been trying to switch from her current role.
The problem is, even though you won’t find much change in the job description, the on-ground expectations from every creative role have changed.
I won’t blame companies either, because honestly, everyone is trying to figure out how to survive in this wave. Even companies building AI tools are struggling to stay relevant.
For creative individuals, it’s high time to think from a skill-stacking perspective where you’re not rigid about your role. If you’re a designer, you can also write a blog or vibe-code a landing page.
The way companies are doing layoffs now and then, it has become necessary for them to stay alive in this economy.
But as an individual contributor, always remember if you can get things done creatively and drive business outcomes, you will be irreplaceable.
In this AI-first economy, people who stay creative, inquisitive, and maintain a beginner’s mindset will adapt best. Those who can identify the biggest bottleneck each day and ask what AI tools can help accelerate or solve it.
Here are a few quick pointers on how to stand out and build a recession-proof career:
1. Train yourself with more than one skill.
2. Don’t chase every skill in town.
3. Prioritize skills that match your strengths.
4. Document your cross-domain learning journey.
5. Research industry trends before investing time.
6. Articulate how your diverse skills work together.
7. Proof of work trumps certificates every time.
8. Understand the business impact of your skill stack.
9. Every role now demands cross-functional thinking.
10. Build a personal brand around your unique skill combination.
11. Follow thought leaders at skill intersections.
12. Create projects that showcase your critical thinking.
Post your proof of work online, share WIP experiments, DM the founders the marketing strategies you prepared for them. Nobody is coming to find you. You have to shamelessly show up.
I often get asked by community members, “What makes for a good portfolio?”
A portfolio that has the highest likelihood of landing a job shows that you already have the skills to do what you’ll be hired for.
Last week, I read a paragraph that perfectly explained why some people immediately impress employers while others fail to do so:
“Remember, most managers don’t have training in being managers. No one ever taught them how to interview designers or developers. The easier you make their jobs-finding and landing qualified candidates-by presenting yourself as the person they’ve been looking for, the better the outcome for you.”
Here’s an example of portfolio like that: Kritima Mehra

Listen to this audiobook of a century-old book on promoting yourself. When the YouTube algorithm recommended this video, I first Googled whether it actually existed or if it was fake.
Honestly, the internet itself is only 3–4 decades old, so the idea of promoting yourself feels foreign, especially when the title mentions a book from 1914.
You’ll be surprised by the kind of insights this small book covers. A few topics I found particularly interesting were: the nature of wealth, the role of money, practical psychology, and the power of clear desire.
With that, have a great month ahead. May bring lots of happiness and keep you and your loved ones healthy. See you next week.
