You might be thinking, “This is happening far away. What does it have to do with me sitting in Bangalore or Mumbai or Delhi?”
It’s impacting more than you think. Here’s how global wars quietly deciding your life:
1/ Companies freeze hiring when uncertain.
War creates economic uncertainty. When businesses don’t know what’s coming - oil prices, inflation, supply disruptions and the first thing they cut is new hiring. Not just abroad. Indian startups and MNCs operating here watch the same global signals.
2/ Oil prices rise → your cost of living rises → your salary feels smaller.
When oil gets expensive, everything gets expensive. Companies face more cost pressure. Salaries stagnate, appraisals get delayed, new positions disappear.
3/ Layoffs become the safe option.
You’ve already seen global tech layoffs in the last 2 years and that happened without a major war near oil routes. Add that uncertainty, and the math gets worse.
So what should you actually do?
Don’t panic. But don’t ignore this either.
Uncertain times have always separated two kinds of people — those with visible, proven skills and those without.
If you’re job hunting, build your quality proof of work. Highlight your proof of work while applying for new jobs (learn more about building quality proof of work here).
If you’re employed, make yourself impossible to cut.
No war can take away the skills you build today.
