Sydney here,
Sometimes things move so fast in the hustle and bustle of the world that we forget to really sit back and reflect on how far we’ve come.
We’re too wrapped up in petty squabbles and daily inconveniences that we completely look past the little miracles of being alive.
Like do you remember - gosh, I can’t even remember when it was - that our president threatened to destroy an entire civilization? And then less than two hours from his f*cking terrifying self-imposed deadline, said ‘lol, nvm’?
Oh, you’re saying it was just earlier this week? And you’re saying this bit isn’t really that funny? And that you’re unsubscribing as soon as you finish reading this sentence? And now it’s worse because I’m repeating everything you’re saying?
Anyway, Trump is sending his best boy JD Vance to negotiate with Iran leadership later today.
At this point no one can agree what the terms of the ceasefire even were. In fact, there’s disagreement on if there was ever a ceasefire at all with all the bombing still happening, so the outcome of those negotiations are a complete mystery.
According to reporters, Melania’s peculiar little speech on her relationship with Epstein wasn’t really planned - they had no idea she was going to be addressing the topic or why she chose Thursday afternoon to do so.
A one-video week because there’s only so many jokes we can make about potential nuclear war suddenly being more imminent than ever in my lifetime.
Last week, the Forest Service (not to be confused with the National Parks Service - the ones with the cute merch and the bear) announced that they would be making some major changes.
Starting asap, the agency which operates under the Department of Agriculture and manages millions of acres of forests and grasslands, will be dramatically cutting their research facilities from 77 to 57 and consolidating much of their operations in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins says this is all being done for efficiency, but critics including former Forest Service employees fear pulling away employees and researchers from the forests they protect is an attempt to eliminate all institutional employees and make the forests ripe for private selloff.
Considering that one of the important duties of the Forest Service is to conduct research and oversight on wildfire prevention, folks who live in fire-prone areas should especially be concerned.
This story coincides comedically with the FEMA executive who has said repeatedly that God teleports him to a Waffle House in Rome, Georgia. In addition to being a kooky conspiracy theorist who was only hired because he believes the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, this guy also handles emergency wildfire responses. Sorry, California.
If you are lucky enough to live in a community with a Community Supported Agriculture program, or CSA, Spring is a great time to consider becoming a member and reaping the benefits of local, ethically-grown produce.
In a time when farmers are struggling more than ever against fuel and fertilizer shortages, harsh tariffs, and rising prices, becoming a CSA member tells the farming community that their products are valuable and necessary.
If you’re not into veggies (ok, grow up), many CSA’s also offer flower subscriptions, fresh meat, cheese, eggs, and more. If you commit hard enough, you can almost cut the grocery store out entirely.
Google “CSA” and your city name. If you’re in or near Philly, just visit this link.
Until next time,
-Sydney
