Sometimes That's Just How it Is

Sigh.

Readers, it’s been a long week.

It’s only Wednesday.

I still have two more days of this work crap before the weekend hits.

Most of the time, I really like my job.

But this week, not so much.

This week, I’m experiencing what you might call “the darker side of this job”.

Because sometimes marketing can be a real crap-shoot.

The truth is that no matter how hard you work, or how clever you are, or how well your campaign is implemented; some things are just beyond your control.

Sometimes the leads aren’t coming in because the economy is bad.

Sometimes people aren’t coming to you because someone else has given them a better deal.

Sometimes sales are down because your leads were really just kicking the tires and not actually wanting to do business yet.

Sometimes leads don’t convert to customers because your costs have to rise in order to keep the same level of profits, and they just can’t afford it.

Sometimes your ad, social media post, or whatever just doesn’t hit the way you think it should.

Sometimes the algorithm fails you and doesn’t actually deliver your ad to the people who will “take the correct action on it”.

Sometimes that’s just how it is.

Sometimes it’s your job to deal with some or all of the above and figure out how to fix it.

Yeah, you read that right. You have to fix things that are largely out of your control. And it has to be done yesterday.

If you’re there right now. Believe me. I’m right there with you.

Hang in there marketers.

I’m trying to.

Maybe next week we can say that this was all just a bad hazy memory.

Until then, I’m here, listening. Tell me about your bad marketing woes in the comments.
